11 Nov – Walt Disney Pictures and ImageMovers Digital (IMD) presents "A Christmas Carol", a production directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis from his own adaptation based on the 1843 classic novella by Charles Dickens. Fellow Malaysians working in IMD, Jax Lee and Woei Lee, were thrilled to be a part of creating this 3D motion picture animation amongst Zemeckis, Jim Carrey and many other talented crew members.

Joining the company in 2008, Jax Lee, 31, is an animator responsible for enhancing facial motion capture and also hand-key animations. Prior to that, he worked for LucasArts where he designed the graphics for PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 games, namely "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed". Meanwhile, Penang-born Woei Lee, 35, joined IMD early this year as a senior lead compositor, working on developing tools to be used by lighters and compositors to keep the overall look of a scene consistent. He has a background in creating visual effects for live action movies such as "Superman", "Hellboy" and "The Day After Tomorrow".

According to Cinema Online's recent interview with the two, Jax said, "My experience with the movie is amazing! It's like a dream come true. One of the biggest challenges in this film is that you have to animate the details of real humans - exaggerate a little bit and then make it look real. I think the most characters I've animated are Scrooge (Jim Carrey) and Bob Cratchit (Gary Oldman). Jim Carrey is amazingly talented and fun to work with and I'm very happy with the results."

With regards to the classic story, he said, "Before I joined IMD, I never read the books and never knew the story. But after doing research, I realised that there are a lot on the market! What separates this from previous remakes is that it's close to the illustrations from the original 1843 book, and also the rendering quality and texturing is very good. I'd personally suggest everyone to go watch it in 3-D!"

Jim Carry as Ebenezer Scrooge.

Disney's "A Christmas Carol" will spread the cheer in cinemas on 19 November 2009!
