Want to know the cinemas of 2015?

This year is promising to be another great year for avid moviegoers, as there are more and more new cinemas mushrooming nationwide. We at Cinema Online have compiled a list of such cinemas, such as the upcoming GSC Nu Sentral in Kuala Lumpur, to make it easier for you to locate the nearest cinema for you to go and watch your favourite movies at.

Read on for our list of cinematic outlets that are opening or re-launching in 2015:

GSC Cinemas

As the biggest chain of cinemas in Malaysia, it comes as no surprise that Golden Screen Cinemas will be opening quite a number of outlets this year. The first one to officially open was GSC Nu Sentral on 29 January 2015. The 11-hall cinema is part of the new Nu Sentral mall, strategically located right next to – and interconnected with – Kuala Lumpur's main transportation hub, KL Sentral. It has a seating capacity of 1,783, including 22 wheelchair spaces. Its Hall 3 is a THX-certified hall with Dolby Atmos sound system.

Other GSC cinemas that will be opening this year are the 13-screen GSC IOI City Mall, Putrajaya; 8-screen GSC Klang Parade and 10-screen GSC Aman Central, Alor Setar.

GSC is also currently working on upgrading two of its cinemas, GSC Summit USJ at Subang Jaya and GSC Mid Valley Megamall, the latter which will be upgraded to a 21-screen cinema by this year. Upgrading work on GSC Ipoh Parade has concluded and the cinema will be presenting its new look on 4 February 2015.

TGV Cinemas

TGV Cinemas has been busy expanding its growth since the end of last year and they will be kicking off 2015 with the opening of TGV Cinemas Jaya Shopping Mall. Located at Section 14, Petaling Jaya, the new cinema is expected to be open in mid-Feb and will be equipped with TGV Cinemas' trademark Beanieplex hall - or 'the bean bag hall', as it is called since some of the seats are replaced with bean bag chairs to ensure maximum comfort for moviegoers as they watch their movies.

For East Malaysia, TGV Cinemas has got two more cinemas planned and they will be located at Vivacity Megamall, Kuching and PacifiCity, Kota Kinabalu. What's exciting is that there are also two new IMAX theatres planned for Vivacity and Sunway Velocity.

More Beanieplex this year from TGV Cinemas!
If you're a fan of cinema lounges, then you'll be glad to know that TGV is bringing over the Chill*X lounge which is currently only available at TGV Cinemas 1 Utama to Sunway Pyramid and also to TGV Cinemas Gurney Paragon. The chain is also looking towards refurbishing their existing cinemas at TGV Cinemas Bukit Tinggi and TGV Cinemas Seremban 2 to keep in-line with their more contemporary look.

For movie buffs who enjoy total immersion in a movie, this South Korean cinema chain will be a welcome addition in the country's list of cinematic theatres. CGV Cinemas will be bringing in 'Cultureplex', the first of its kind in Malaysia. The first outlet is set to open at Empire City Damansara at Damansara Perdana sometime in the middle of 2015. The term 'Cultureplex' is coined from the combination of the word culture and the abbreviation of complex; aptly named as it will be a movie complex, so to speak, with its 20 screens spread out across 7 levels.

There are several different types of theatres, the first one being the 4DX theatre, which is a motion seat viewing experience coupled with environmental effects; the second is ScreenX theatre, featuring a panoramic 270-degree screen; the third one, the Starium theatre, is a large screen format theatre; the fourth one is Private Cinema, a luxury theatre offering a lounge and dining area; and last but not least, the Multifunction Hall, a theatre with flexible seating arrangement for events.

Each theatre will have a seating capacity between 100 to 600 seats. Ticket prices will vary depending on the chosen movie formats and specialty theatre.

The mall is expected to open in the first or second quarter of the year. Touted as the city's upcoming most expensive mall, it can only be expected that the MBO cinema there will feature a sleek and luxurious look to go with the mall's theme.
