5 reasons why "Goosebumps 2" is a must-see this Halloween!

Date Posted: 26 October 2018

Slappy is back for vengeance in the sequel, "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween".

For most die-hard movie fans, the month of October is typically synonymous with Halloween and that means, there will be plenty of horror movies to look forward to.

Horror movies during the Halloween month aren't just geared for adults, as evidently seen via "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween", the upcoming horror-comedy sequel to the hit 2015 movie aimed for both kids and adults alike.

Based on the beloved series of children's novels of the same name by R.L. Stine, "Goosebumps" has been successfully adapted to a TV series, games, and the aforementioned feature-length adaptation.

While we are waiting for the much-anticipated release of "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween", here are five reasons why you should get excited for the movie!

1) Slappy is back!

Slappy (voiced by Jack Black) returns to wreck more havoc in "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween".

One of the main reasons that contributed to the success of the first "Goosebumps" back in 2015 was Jack Black's perfectly sinister voice as the major antagonist, Slappy the Dummy. Well, the good news is, Slappy is back to wreck havoc in this sequel, and yes, he is still voiced by none other than Jack Black.

2) Those so-called adorable Gummy Bears...

Don't mess with the angry Gummy Bears in "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween".

Who doesn't love chewing some Gummy Bears? Most kids love them. They are cute and colourful to look at. Not to mention they are chewy and flavourful. Except for the fact that the Gummy Bears featured in "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" aren't the ones you think they would be. If you have seen the trailer, among the major highlights is the appearance of the seemingly small Gummy Bears which are actually able to grow into human-sized monsters... complete with growing sharp teeth!

3) More Goosebumps monsters on the loose

Expect to see new monsters in "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween".

Of course, no "Goosebumps" movie would be complete without featuring an army of Goosebumps monsters. In the sequel, some of the returning monsters from the first movie include the likes of the Abominable Snowman, the Werewolf of Fever Swamp, mummies, scarecrows and lawn gnomes. And true to its golden rule of every mainstream sequel should be, "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" will introduce more monsters including the aforementioned Gummy Bears (see our list in #2), green-headed witches, headless horsemen, winged Jack-O'-Lanterns, leprechauns and skull-headed spiders.

4) It's going to be both fun and spooky

Chances are if you loved "Goosebumps", you are going to love this sequel as well. Although original helmer Rob Letterman is no longer calling the shots for the sequel (he actually has his hands full currently prepping for next year's "Pokemon: Detective Pikachu"), replacement director Ari Sandel (2015's "The DUFF") will retain the same eccentric and creepy tone that made the 2015 movie such a hit.

5) Veteran comedians Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ken Jeong joins in the fun

The "Goosebumps" movie franchise may have been a kid-friendly horror comedy in nature. But the sequel never forgets to include adult actors as well. In addition to Jack Black's return as both Slappy and R.L. Stine, "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween" also includes two more veteran comedians including Wendi McLendon-Covey, playing the role of a mother and Ken Jeong as the neighbour. Covey is, of course, best known for her breakthrough performance in Paul Feig's "Bridesmaids" and has also appeared in TV series like "The Goldbergs" and "Reno 911!". Jeong, on the other hand, needs no introduction, having recently appeared in the hit romantic comedy, "Crazy Rich Asians".
