Sridevi Boney Kapoor, or more commonly known as Sridevi, was a legendary Indian actress who worked in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada movies. She was considered Hindi cinema's first superstar having starred in more than 240 movies in her lifetime. With five Filmfare Awards under her belt, she was hailed as one of the most accomplished Indian performers of all time. News of Sridevi's recent untimely death due to cardiac arrest broke millions of her fans' hearts. Although leaving us early, she will always be remembered for her outstanding performances through her wide range of movies. It would be impossible to choose from her 248 movies to list as her best, but here are six of her exceptional works throughout her 54 years of life in no particular order.

Mr. India

"Mr. India" was the highest-grossing Indian movie of 1987 and is considered a cult classic. Sridevi was praised by critics and audiences who agree with Times of India, describing that it was the most hilarious act she has ever done. The movie is about a poor but big-hearted man who fights off bad guys using his trusty invisibility device.

Sadma

"Sadma" is a remake of "Moondram Pirai", which also stars Sridevi in the lead role. Her portrayal of a woman who suffers from amnesia got her a Filmfare Awards nomination for Best Actress. It is a story about Nehalata, played by Sridevi, who suffers an injury to the head which caused amnesia. Lost, she ends up trapped in a brothel before being rescued by a school teacher who falls in love with her.

English Vinglish

"English Vinglish" was Sridevi's comeback movie after a long 15-year gap. Sridevi's performance was praised by many since it first debuted at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. It was also shortlisted as India's official entry for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category that year. This comedic movie revolves around a housewife who enrols in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter from mocking her lack of English skills.
