Adam Driver set to play villain in "Star Wars Episode VII".

1 Mar - Lena Dunham, the woman who stars and is behind the successful HBO comedy "Girls" has officially confirmed on Twitter by letting it slip that her co-star Adam Driver has been chosen to play a lead villain role in "Star Wars".

"We're VERY proud of Adam Driver re: Star Wars. He's about to rip a hole in da force. Is that a thing? I guess I should see those movies?" Tweeted Dunham.

The 30-year-old actor will take on a villainous role "in the vein of" Darth Vader, according to Variety, and apparently he beat Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving for the job.

Driver has been playing Dunham's on-screen love interest, Adam Sackler, in "Girls" since its launch in 2012. His role earned him an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor last year.

He has also appeared in films like the Coen Brothers' "Inside Llewyn Davis" and "Midnight Special" with Kirsten Dunst and Joel Edgerton.

The first film of the planned third "Star Wars" trilogy will be directed, produced and written by J.J. Abrams, based on a story by George Lucas. The plot is believed to pick up where the 1983 movie "Return of the Jedi" left off.

Filming is due to start in April at England's Pinewood Studios.
