26 Nov – Liew Seng Tat, the director of "Lelaki Harapan Dunia", English title: "Men Who Save the World", explains his reason for making the Malay movie, saying that it is meant to highlight an old tradition of 'house-lifting' once practiced by the Malays.

Seng Tat also wishes to instill the spirit of togetherness in a community regardless of race or nationality.

"When I make a film, I want to make one that not only entertains but also delivers a content that the audience can mull over," said the director during an interview at the Gala Premiere of "Lelaki Harapan Dunia" at GSC Pavilion.

Seng Tat revealed that the idea to make this latest film of his came up when he saw a picture of a group of men literally lifting a house.

"I was touched by the picture. I think it stays in my mind because a house, it can be seen not only as a dwelling place, but it is also representative of a community's identity. From a wider perspective, it makes me wonder why humans work well together but at the same time, often clash with each other."

Actor Azhan Rani was initially skeptical of the idea of a Chinese director, producer and screenwriter making a Malay movie.

"At first, I thought the movie was not good. They wanted to meet with the actors, to provide us the scripts. I saw their sincerity, saw the amazing lineup of actors that they had but I was still skeptical. It was only when we started on the script-reading that I started falling for this movie."

"Lelaki Harapan Dunia", which has been screened at numerous international film festivals, will be released in Malaysian cinemas on 27 November 2014.
