28 Jan – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon have been revealed to be the confirmed cast for the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot.

Director Paul Feig revealed the casting via his official Twitter account, posting a picture of the four leading ladies. The post was later followed with a message detailing the movie's release date.

However, the director did not reveal more of what to expect from the movie. All that is known at the moment is "The Heat" writer Katie Dippold will be penning the script, which will presumably closely follow the '80s "Ghostbusters", except for it featuring an all-female cast instead of the original male leads.

Dan Aykroyd, the late Harold Ramis, and Bill Murray in 1984's "Ghostbusters".

Feig will reunite once again with his "Bridesmaids" stars McCarthy and Wiig, while also bringing in current "Saturday Night Live" comedic talents Jones and McKinnon.

McCarthy and Wiig joining the cast is no surprise since even original "Ghostbuster" star Bill Murray listed the two as his favourite to headline the reboot, after he himself declined to sign on to a third instalment.

The original "Ghostbusters" starring Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and the late Harold Ramis, was released in 1984. It grossed USD295.2 million worldwide. In 1989, a sequel was released; it collected USD215.3 million worldwide but was not as well received by critics as the first.

The "Ghostbusters" reboot is set to haunt North American cinemas on 22 July 2016.
