"Goosebumps" comes alive at number one

"Goosebumps" scares up the U.S and M'sia box office charts.

20 Oct – Rob Letterman's silver-screen adaptation of R.L. Stine's same name popular novel series, "Goosebumps", has managed to creep to the top spot at the weekend box office for 15 to 18 October 2015.

The 3D live-action horror comedy opened at number one in the U.S. and Malaysia last weekend. It is only set to open in Singapore this 29 October.

Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush and Amy Ryan star in the movie where monsters and ghouls from the book series come alive, much to the delight of the audiences, especially those who have grown up reading the books.

Collecting USD23.6 million on its opening weekend in the U.S., "Goosebumps" pushed "The Martian" off the top spot, claiming first place for itself. Now placing second, "The Martian" managed to rake in another USD21.3 million, contributing to its current worldwide gross of USD318.9 million.

Opening at third is Steven Spielberg's "Bridge of Spies". The historical dramatic thriller starring Tom Hanks opened with USD15.3 million, based on Box Office Mojo stats.

"Crimson Peak" only managed to open at No.4 in the U.S.

In Malaysia, "Goosebumps" also opened first. Local action movie, "Polis Evo", is showing no signs of slowing as it moved up a spot to number two. Having grossed RM15 million now, it is only a matter of time before the Malay movie might beat "The Journey", which grossed RM17.17 million, and become the top grossing local movie in Malaysia.

Opening at number three is Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak". The horror movie, starring Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, did not break the top three in the U.S. but managed to secure third in not only Malaysia but its neighbouring country Singapore.

"The Martian" stayed put at number one in Singapore. While two new releases, "Bridge of Spies" and the aforementioned "Crimson Peak", took second and third, respectively.

New movies in Malaysia last weekend include "Rudramadevi", "Our Times", "Bridge Of Spies", "Badi", "Momentum", "Love Live! The School Idol Movie", "Get Outta Here", "Death Trip", "3688" and "Talvar".

Last weekend, other new releases in Singapore are "Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2", "Attack On Titan Part 2: Wings Of Freedom", "Are You Here?", "Heart Attack", "Knock Knock", "SMTown The Stage" and "Masala Padam".
