27 May – A couple of months ago, it was announced that Asian American filmmaker Jon M. Chu will be directing the movie adaptation of Singapore-born author Kevin Kwan's debut novel, "Crazy Rich Asians".

Recent development reveals that the upcoming movie is set to be filmed in Singapore, according to The Straits Times.

"The plan is to film in Singapore. I'm going to go visit very soon and check it out. I'm excited," said Chu.

Since the best-selling novel entails the life of extreme wealthy Asians living in Singapore, as well as Hong Kong and Shanghai, and revolves around an American-born Chinese woman who meets the high-society family of her Singaporean boyfriend for the first time, it comes as no surprise then that the island nation has been chosen as the filming location.

Last years, when interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, author Kwan, who is also an executive producer on the movie adaptation, expressed his hope that "there will be equal representation in terms of Singapore stars, Hong Kong stars, Asian American stars, mainland Chinese stars" in the movie.

So expect to see the best of Asian stars in the cast, as even though this is a Hollywood production, the chances of the characters being white-washed for the big screen may be lower now with Chu, who supports diversity, attached to direct.

Well known for directing "G.I. Joe: Retaliation", "Justin Bieber" movies and "Step Up" movies, Chu's most recent work is "Now You See Me 2", starring Taiwanese singer-actor Jay Chou alongside Jesse Eisenberg ("Batman V Superman"), Mark Ruffalo ("The Avengers"), Daniel Radcliffe ("Harry Potter") and more.

"Now You See Me 2" appears in cinemas on 16 June 2016.
