Lady Gaga showed off her acting chops in "American Horror Story: Hotel".

17 Jun – Golden Globe-winning actress Lady Gaga is up for a starring role in actor-director Bradley Cooper's remake of "A Star Is Born".

The eccentric singer, who has dabbled in acting since her teenage years, is Cooper's first choice after acing her screen test, according to The Guardian.

Gaga will be taking over from Beyoncé, who was initially offered the lead role but left the project in March 2011 – reportedly, Cooper and Warner Bros. were unable to meet the "Single Ladies" singer's asking fee.

If Gaga agrees to take on the project, she will be playing a part previously made famous by the likes of Janet Gaynor, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. She will be starring opposite Cooper himself, who will play a troubled, alcoholic movie star that will help her achieve her dreams.

The movie will be Cooper's directorial debut, after original director Clint Eastwood ("American Sniper") also left the project five years ago to make "Jersey Boys".

Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, 30-year-old Gaga proved her acting chops when she won Best Actress at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. It was all thanks to her portrayal of The Countess in "American Horror Story: Hotel", the fifth season of the horror anthology television series "American Horror Story".

Previously, the singer-actress has made several brief big screen appearances in "Machete Kills" (2013), "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" (2014) and "Muppets Most Wanted" (2014), but "A Star Is Born" will be her true birth as a silver screen leading lady.

In the meantime, Gaga is confirmed to return for another gig on the sixth season of "American Horror Story".
