"Game of Thrones" director lands Sony's live-action movie

Writer: Casey Chong

"Game of Thrones" director Alex Graves will be helming Sony's live-action adaptation of "Mulan".

18 Oct – After announcing that it is making its own live-action take on the ancient Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, Sony Pictures now brings an update – the project has found a director.

"Game Of Thrones" director Alex Graves has been enlisted to helm the forthcoming production of "Mulan", according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Apart from directing a few episodes of "Game Of Thrones", Graves is a veteran TV filmmaker whose other impressive track records include "Ally McBeal", "The Practice", "The West Wing" and "House Of Cards".

No cast for the movie has been named at the moment but "Mirror Mirror" screenwriter Jason Keller is in charge of writing the script.

Disney has its own animated version of "Mulan".

Sony's "Mulan" will be competing with Disney's live-adaptation, which is already dated for a 12 November 2018 release in North America.

This will definitely be an interesting battle between the two adaptations, especially since this isn't Disney's first dance with the tale, having previously made an animated version of "Mulan" back in 1998, in which the title character was voiced by Ming-Na Wen.

Disney, however, is still on the hunt for a director as filmmaker Ang Lee has recently turned down the project. Cinema Blend reported that it was because Lee will instead be focusing on a boxing movie he had been developing even before helming "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk".
