"Ola Bola" team strikes their best pose.

7 Mar – Is director Chiu Keng Guan on his way to achieving yet another highest-grossing local movie in Malaysia?

The director's latest movie, "Ola Bola", has now collected more than RM16 million at the local box office after 39 days of showing in cinemas.

Since its release on 28 January, the Astro Shaw movie has been steadily scoring one goal after another, as it first managed to achieve RM 2.5 million in just 4 days and after 29 days was able to cross the RM14.5 million mark.

If the movie surpasses RM18 million, the final collection of 2015's "Polis Evo", it will overtake it as the highest-grossing local movie in the country.

Said achievement will be another feather in director Chiu's cap, whose 2014 movie, "The Journey", broke the highest-grossing local movie record with RM17.3 million.

Despite its recent controversy, where local football players threatened to sue due to incorrect portrayal of the match it was supposedly based on, "Ola Bola" is still going strong at the local box office.

"Ola Bola" will also be released in Taiwan, after making its international debut at the Taipei Golden Horse Fantastic Film Festival between 8 and 17 April 2016.
