Bradley Liew to produce a musical without music

9 Mar – Philippines-based Malaysian director Bradley Liew is set to produce another Malaysian-Filipino movie that will be directed by Philippines' award-winning independent filmmaker, Lav Diaz.

Liew who recently won Best Picture via his film "Singing in Graveyards" at the first ever Malaysian Golden Global Awards (MGGA), told the press that his next project will be a black and white musical without music.


Liew and the co-producer of "Singing in Graveyards", Bianca Balbuena who is also Liew's fiancé.

The movie will be shot all over the Selangor state such as Serendah and Semenyih, and is currently still in the works.

"The movie is still in post-production, but I hope to bring it over to Malaysia when it's completed," said the 28-year-old director and producer.

Lav Diaz is an acclaimed Filipino director whose films have received much critical attention and many awards including the Golden Leopard at the 67th Locarno International Film Festival, the Alfred Bauer Prize at 66th Berlin International Film Festival and Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival.

Diaz also starred in Liew's award-winning "Singing in Graveyards" which had also won Best Film at the 2016 Kolkata International Film Festival.

When asked regarding his achievement at MGGA, Liew said, "It feels wonderful just being nominated alongside the film which has won the Academy Awards, the film which won the Palme d'Or, and others – we really did not expect to win this award at all."

Also a Malaysian-Filipino production, "Singing in Graveyards" follows Pepe, the impersonator of a rock legend, who gets the chance to open for the rock legend`s concert but decides to do something neither of them has ever done before – write a love song.
