Channing Tatum's "Gambit" gets release date

Date Posted: 14 October 2017

Save your date on Valentine's Day 2019 for "Gambit".

14 Oct – After multiple setbacks, including being dropped from its original 2016 release date, Gambit's chance of a solo movie seems meek – until now.

Channing Tatum-starrer "Gambit" now has a North American opening date of 14 February 2019, which was previously set for an untitled Fox/Marvel release, according to Deadline.

The new date will have the film opening nearly two and a half years after its initial October 2016 date.

Starring Tatum as the titular character, "Gambit" will also have "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" director Gore Verbinski on board to helm, following the departures of filmmakers Rupert Wyatt in October 2015 and Doug Liman in August 2016.

Created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee, Gambit, also known as Remy LeBeau, is a smooth-talking New Orleans native with the ability to manipulate kinetic energy.

Armed with a staff and a deck of playing cards, Gambit was first seen on the big screen in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", portrayed by Taylor Kitsch.

While we'll only see this "X-Men" spinoff in 2019, next year is set to be the year of "X-Men" with "New Mutants" opening in North America on 13 April, "Deadpool 2" on 1 June, and the latest instalment of the franchise, "X-Men: Dark Phoenix", on 2 November 2018.
