17 May – It was recently announced by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs that late-night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel, will be returning to host the 90th annual Oscars next year.

The news was revealed on the Oscars' official website. This makes Kimmel the first person to host the Oscars back-to-back in almost twenty years, since Billy Crystal hosted the Oscars in 1997 and 1998.

Kimmel was responsible for making this year's Oscars nothing but memorable.

During his opening monologue, he referenced his feud with actor Matt Damon, whom Kimmel introduced as "Ben Affleck and Guest". He later made candy fall from the ceiling of the Dolby Theatre.

He didn't hold back his distinctive sarcasm or zings during the ceremony, mostly aimed at President Donald Trump and he also referenced Trump's statement about Meryl Streep by calling the many-time Oscars winner and nominee "overrated".

Which is why, despite the Best Picture envelope mishap, which Kimmel blames himself for, the Academy is very much looking forward to his return to the Dolby Theatre.

"After just one year, we can't imagine anyone else hosting The Oscars. Jimmy's skilful command of the stage is invaluable on a night when anything can happen – and does," said ABC Entertainment President, Channing Dungey.

Also returning for the Oscars 2018 are multi-nominated and veteran producers, Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd.

Isaacs herself called the team up of Kimmel, Todd and De Luca "an Oscar Dream Team".

And since the announcement of their involvement was made much earlier compared to last year (De Luca and Todd were not named to produce the 2017 Oscars until November 2016, and Kimmel wasn't called in until early December), they will have plenty of time to plan and prepare which means that next year's Oscars will definitely be something to look forward to.

Kimmel himself has said: "Hosting the Oscars was a highlight of my career and I am grateful to Cheryl, Dawn and the Academy for asking me to return to work with two of my favourite people, Mike De Luca and Jennifer Todd."

"If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!"

The 90th Oscars is set to take place on the first Sunday of March 2018, to avoid overlapping with the closing ceremony of the winter Olympics which is expected to take place on the last weekend of February 2018.
