15 May – It is a sad day for comic book movie fans as Margot Kidder who famously portrayed Lois Lane in the early "Superman" movies has died.

Kidder was only 69-years-old when she was found dead in her sleep at her home in Montana, USA, as confirmed by Variety.

The cause of her death has not yet been identified but representatives said that she died peacefully.

The Canadian-born actress started her acting career in the late '60s with roles in movies such as "The Best Damn Fiddler from Calabogie to Kaladar", "Gaily, Gaily", and her first lead role in "Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx" alongside Gene Wilder.

It was her role in 1978's "Superman", however, that brought her to prominence where she played the titular character's love interest, Lois Lane, opposite Christopher Reeve who was Superman / Clark Kent at that time.

She continued on to portray the iconic comic book character for three more sequels ending it with "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" before taking on roles that are not as impactful or memorable as her Lois Lane.

It is no denying that Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve have a strong chemistry which eventually led to the success of "Superman".

Since then, Kidder has been taking on smaller roles in small independent movies with last year's "The Neighborhood" being her final feature movie.

She won her first major international award in 2015 for her role in the TV series "The Haunting Hour: The Series" at the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Kidder leaves behind a daughter from her marriage with her first husband, Thomas McGuane.
