"Amazing Spider-Man" director could be directing "Snow White"

Date Posted: 31 May 2019

The live-action version of "Snow White" is still looking for its director.

31 May – The search for a helmer for the live-action adaptation of "Snow White" continues. The name being bandied around at the moment is none other than Marc Webb, the director of movies such as "500 Days of Summer", the Chris Evan-starring "Gifted" and the Andrew Garfield-led "The Amazing Spider-Man" series.

Variety is reporting that Webb hasn't finalized the deal yet but he is currently Disney's top choice to helm the movie.

If he takes the deal, Webb will be joining a crew that includes "La La Land" songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who will be writing new songs for the movie, and "The Girl on the Train" screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson, who is in talks to pen the script.

The live-action version of "Snow White" was first announced in October 2016, a couple of months after it was revealed that a live-action spinoff told from the point of view of Snow White's sister, Rose Red, was being made – though there's not been much update on the Rose Red front since.

It is unknown at the moment how closely the movie will resemble the 1937 "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", which was Disney's first animated film.

As with the studio's parade of live-action takes on its animated films for the past few years, such as "Aladdin", "Dumbo", Beauty and the Beast" and "Cinderella", the plots remain largely the same with a few tweaks to the characters and songs here and there.

This won't be Webb's only animated film to live-action adaptation he'll be working on, as he's also earlier this year signed on to direct Hollywood's remake of the highest-grossing anime film of all time, "Your Name".
