Date Posted: 04 January 2019

The returning cast of "Jumanji" will be joined by a new member.

4 Jan – Not much is known about the upcoming follow-up to 2017's "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" but one thing is certain, another actress is coming onboard.

"Crazy Rich Asians" actress Awkwafina is in final negotiations to join the sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 30-year-old American rapper will be joining a cast made up of returning stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart.

There is no info available on the character she will be playing, except that it is a "key" and "significant' role.

While plot details are also currently kept under wraps, the upcoming sequel will likely continue the story of "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle", which in turn is a follow-up to the 1995 Robin Williams-starring "Jumanji".

The board game from the 1995 movie is updated to a video game version in the 2017 movie. The aforementioned Dwayne Johnson-led cast plays the avatars of the four teenagers who are transported into the video game's world.

With the 2017 movie having made more than USD962 million at the global box office, it's no surprise that director Jake Kasdan will be back to direct the new sequel too, which is set to play in cinemas in December 2019.
