"Ghostbusters II" actor turns new "Ghostbusters" director

Date Posted: 16 January 2019

The new movie will continue the story of the original "Ghostbusters" movies.

16 Jan – If you're a fan of paranormal stuff, you're in luck because a new "Ghostbusters" sequel is coming out in summer 2020.

The new movie is set to be helmed by Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan Reitman directed the original two "Ghostbusters" movies in the '80s.

The younger Reitman has been working on the script in secret with Gil Kenan and production on the movie is expected to begin this summer.

This won't be Reitman's first encounter with a "Ghostbuster" movie as he previously appeared in his father's 1989 "Ghostbusters II", the sequel that was released five years after the first "Ghostbusters" movie.

His new "Ghostbusters" movie will continue the story of the previous two Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and the late Harold Ramis-starring movies. It will be not be related to the 2016 all-female reboot that was poorly-received by critics and fans alike.

The first "Ghostbusters" movie in 1984 received a 97% scoring on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest among all three "Ghostbusters" movies. The reboot, meanwhile, was considered a failure at the box office because of its high production cost.

Reitman had mentioned that he will be focusing on new characters so it is unknown whether any of the original cast members will be returning for his project.
