Sigourney Weaver excited to reunite with original "Ghostbusters" stars

Date Posted: 10 June 2019

Sigourney Weaver starred as Dana Barrett in both the 1984 and 1989 "Ghostbusters" movies.

10 Jun – "Ghostbusters" fans kicked off 2019 with the pretty awesome news of an incoming threequel from director Jason Reitman ("Tully", "Juno").

Thing's just gotten better as the possibility of the original stars retuning for "Ghostbusters 3" is very likely, after Sigourney Weaver told Parade Magazine that she will be back as Dana Barrett.

"It's going to be crazy working with the guys again!" she said, referring to Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.

Reitman himself further cemented this confirmation at Ghostbusters Fan Fest. A post on the official "Ghostbusters" Twitter account quoted him as saying, "Sigourney has read the screenplay...Dan has read it...Ernie's read the script...Bill Murray has read the script."

Rumours of Weaver, Murray, Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson reprising their roles have been circulating after the announcement of the new movie was made, but it is only now that fans are receiving some sort of confirmation on it.

Though there are no details on how the original cast will fit into "Ghostbusters 3".

It is not yet known how Barrett, Murray's Peter Venkman, Aykroyd's Raymond "Ray" Stantz and Hudson's Winston Zeddemore will fit into the story, which focuses on teen paranormal investigators played by Mckenna Grace ("Captain Marvel", "Annabelle Comes Home") and Finn Wolfhard ("It", "It: Chapter Two").

Carrie Coon ("Avengers: Infinity War", "Widows") will play the siblings' single mother, who moves her family back home to a small town, where they begin to learn not only more about themselves but also the secrets of the town.

Reitman, who previously appeared in "Ghostbusters II" that was directed by his father Ivan, will be helming the new movie from the script he's written with Gil Kenan.

Tentatively called "Ghostbusters 3" and set for release in North America cinemas on 10 July 2020, the movie will be a direct follow-up to the original 1984 "Ghostbusters" and the 1989 sequel. It will ignore the events of the 2016 reboot that was unfortunately ill-received by fans.
