"Maut", previously known as the even more fearsome "Malaikat Maut", is Tayangan Unggul's latest production and the first local movie opening in 2009.
A meditative piece on the inevitability of death, the movie took a long time (some three years) to make and to release. Finally passed for general viewing with a "U" rating, audiences now have a chance to catch this extraordinary Bade Hj. Azmi film.
A throwback to almost 50 years ago in the black-and-white "Isi Neraka" directed by Jamil Sulong, "Maut" is a powerful study of Man and the afterlife, told through a three-part story punctuated by the months of the Islamic calendar. Chronicling the twisted destinies of a stranger on a bus, a sinful air stewardess and an angry young man obsessed with gothic black metal, "Maut" plays judge, jury and executioner; delivering a compelling story beyond today's industry norms.
With hallmark action scenes by Bade Hj. Azmi and hard-hitting fiery emotions, "Maut" boasts an all-star lineup consisting Que Haidar, Liyana Jasmay, Sabrina Hassan, Awal Ashaari, Raja Farah, Diana Danielle, Nana ERA FM, Danny X-Factor, Sherry Ibrahim, Eja, Hasnul Rahmat, Fauziah Ghous, Emy Nadia and many more.
"Maut" opens January 15 2009 in cinemas nationwide.
