Based on the heart-tugging Jodi Picault's 2004 bestseller, this movie initially was supposed to have Dakota Fanning playing the role of Kate Fitzgerald, a leukaemia patient. However, Fanning pulled out because she allegedly refused to have her head shaved. A great move on Fanning's part or else we would not have the chance to see Sofia Vassilieva's talent as the fills in the role.

This film tells the story about Brian (Jason Patric) and Sara Fitzgerald (Cameron Diaz), whose daughter Kate (Sofia Vassilieva) is diagnosed with leukaemia at a very young age. Brian and Sara decided to conceive another child so she can serve as a donor to her sister. At first, Anna (Abigail Breslin) seems fine with spending her life donating tissue to help her sister, that is until Kate's condition worsens to the point that she needs a kidney transplant. Refused to donate her kidney, Anna hires a well-known attorney Campbell Alexander to sue her mother for medical emancipation to ensure that she can keep her organ.

"My Sister's Keeper" has many well known Hollywood A-listers such as Cameron Diaz, Abigail Breslin, Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack, which works very well. Well known as the bubbly and goofy blonde airhead in rom-com movies, Cameron Diaz doesn't disappoint her viewers playing a more serious role, as a mother who is intent on keeping her daughter alive without thinking about anything else. It is quite rare to see Diaz make-up free, miserable and do more than smile and be bodacious.

Meanwhile, the brave Sofia Vassilieva gave an outstanding and touching performance, and was willing to go bald just for her character. Moreover, the talented 13-year-old Abigail Breslin, from the award-winning "Little Miss Sunshine" (2006), is a versatile actress who can take on any role thrown to her.

Directed and co-written by Nick Cassavetes, he does pretty good job of keeping the story moving and continues to draw on the emotions generated by the Fitzgerald's family to audiences.

"My Sister's Keeper" is a very emotional movie and beautifully crafted. It makes us re-evaluate the value of our family and friends close to us, those who are sick or has passed away. It's also about the choices you make in your life. However for those who have read the book, you might be surprised with the movie's ending. As an adaption, this movie will satisfy most fans.
