Watch this if you liked: "Aladdin", "Drona"

It wouldn't be a big surprise that this Hindi addition to the Arabic tale will copy a lot from the Disney version in 1993. However, other than adding a new villain and a new background, "Aladin" isn't the most interesting of movies. Audiences who are looking for a story will be sorely disappointed with the cartooning about.

Ritesh Deskmukh who plays Aladin, lacks comedy timing. Sanjay Dutt who plays the Ringmaster might regret accepting this role as it was a complete waste and he doesn't get to do much. Many might not know that the film's debutant actress Jacqueline Fernandez is actually Miss Universe 2006 and is also half Malaysian. Her role as Jasmine isn't cashed in at all, either.

Cinematographer Shirsha Roy does a wonderful job in providing a complete lookalike city of a magical land, or at least bettered the effects in "Drona". On the musical aspect, one would be happy to hear a few numbers from Amitabh Bachchan "in his own voice", rocking and rapping around, sounding more cheerful than the rest. On the actual songs, music director Vishal Shekhar does only a passable job.

Sadly, the film will fail terribly at the box office and it will not impress the audience much. If you have to see it, highlights are the introduction of Genie Genius (Amitabh's role) and also the fighting scenes at the climax where the Genie gets into fight mode, reminscent of Neo in "Matrix Reloaded" with a little bit of Jackie Chan stunts as well. Overall, the movie is still worth a watch but only for the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, who at the age of 68 years old still manages to dance, sing, fight, run and of course the solid emotional dialogues - all done better than his younger co-stars. It will be an entertaining movie for the kids but please do not go in with high expectations.
