Watch this if you liked: “The Twins Effect”

"Vampire Warriors" is actually quite similar to Dante Lam's "The Twins Effect" (2003) in terms of its 'good versus bad vampire' theme. However, this action flick's special effects, storyline and gags were non-impressive.

In the seemingly peaceful human world, a lone vampire-hunter named Ar (Jiang Lu-Xia) is determined to hunt and kill all the bloodsuckers. She also has a score to settle with the most powerful vampire, Vampire Mung (Yuen Wah) who killed her beloved sister. With the help of Max, a vegetarian vampire, and some vampire friends, Ar confronts Mung who is getting more powerful by the day.

The film contains your typical western-based genre fanboy, where there are vampires dressed in tight leather clothing, vampires that know kung fu and even an implied lesbian romance. Audiences might expect the movie to quite hilarious judging from the trailer and movie stills, but sadly it just didn't quite pull off the humour effectively. Also, some of the vampire costumes were well done, while others looked like they were going to a Halloween party!

The action choreography proved to be quite good, but the wireworks weren't well executed, thus ruining the action sequences. The special effects too were not as great as it should be during this time and age where technology is at its peak.

Despite all the above, what can be appreciated are the shooting styles and set locations. As with most Asian films, this movie has a fantastic colour contrast. It also creates the kind of lomography scene, while the film has most of its settings at abandoned buildings, industrial factories, basement underground basements, and neo-gothic chapels.

Overall, audiences will find themselves easily loosing focus onto the story as it loses its appeal with not-so-witty gags, draggy scenes and an unorganised plot arrangement.
