"Overheard 2" is only a sequel by name, when actually it's more of a reboot of itself that retains the key elements of its first production. Writers-directors Alan Mak and Felix Chong came up with an entirely new story line and characters that is sure to thrill and entertain its audience. Imagine a "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" that won't leave you dozing off every 10 minutes.

The story unfolds when Manson Law (Lau Ching Wan), a renowned stockbroker in Hong Kong is injured in a car accident. Later, it is discovered that he was under tight surveillance by an unknown man called Joe (Daniel Wu). Investigations by the police team assigned to this case led by Inspector Jack Ho (Louis Koo) then trigger a cat-and-mouse game between all three of them, one that could strongly affect the entire stock market in Hong Kong.

There may be some financial market lingo that is practically gibberish to most audience, but the writers are smart in the sense that they did not make the story entirely dependent on it. Daniel Wu had one of his better performances thanks to his character, Joe. There's a huge question mark about his character, whether the intentions are good or bad. Louis Koo as Inspector Jack Ho was good too, but not great, his portrayal as a troubled cop was a little awkward at times but it works for the most parts.

The intensity of the plot is so great that you will not want to miss a single sentence or scene. Compared to the first, "Overheard 2" is more on a serious note, it has its funny moments but that only consists of old people cursing. The cinematography had its weak points but overall was done pretty well.

To most, this film might not seem comparable to big blockbusters, but it's not one to be missed either. The screenplay by its writers-directors was so gripping that you wouldn't want it to end.
