Watch this if you liked: “Kadhal Kondein” & “Vaaranam Ariyam”

This is the fourth film where both director Selvaraghavan and his brother Dhanush are coming together. As usual, the film contains all the touches of Selvaraghavan's unique film making techniques with some unusual storytelling.

Karthik (Dhanush), a freelance photographer whose desire is to work with India's famous wildlife photographer Madhesh Krishnaswamy (Ravi Prasad), but it only ends up in his dreams. Karthik usually spends time with his gang of friends and one day was introduced to his friend Sundar's girl friend Yamini (Richa Gangopadhay). Initially the relationship between Karthik and Yamini wasn't good, but things slowly start changing and soon she starts liking him. The rest is about how Karthik's life changing path and the emotional journey encountered by them.

Dhanush wins the heart of the audience with his emotional expressions and body language which brings out the realism in his character. Scenes like where he got depressed and cries out really touches ones heart deeply. Newcomer Richa has a meaty role to play and was equally outstanding as Dhanush. It was a surprise to know that this is her debut Tamil film. The rest of the cast support the narration well.

G V Prakash's music adds strength to the film with Dhanush's animated video clip 'Voda voda' and slow-paced background tunes being the favorites. Cinematographer Ramji gives an eye catchy visual treat with his scenery images which has many meanings to it and explores the world of photography in a simple way. Selvaraghavan knows the rhythm of today's youngsters and gives a screenplay that suits their taste. Touching sequences where he explores a man's guilt conscious and his emotional outbursts which leads to frustration are some of the highlights. First half of the film shows lighter moment like "Kadhal Kondein" and second half is heavy in message like "Vaaranam Ariyam".

Overall "Mayakkam Enna" is a very satisfying film to watch if you are looking for a different cinema experience.
