Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

"Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" features two polar opposite characters, who at one point were classmates at Modern School. The first is Naina Talwar, a studious bespectacled young girl. The second is Bunny, a carefree young travel show host intent on breaking out of the pattern of getting an education, a career, a wife, children, retirement, and eventually death. With a desire to be free and live a life of wildness, Bunny embarks on a journey with his two best friends, Aditi, a tomboyish girl, and Avi, a comedic boy with a penchant for satire. Bunny meets Naina and persuades her to spend time with him and his friends in Kashmir. Eventually their journey will lead them to the ultimate destination, love. As the two mature from the age of 21 to their 30`s, they recognize their priorities, realize their true desires and celebrate madness, warmth, marriage, wildness, freedom, togetherness, reunions, friendship, breakups, family, and love.

After five years and a broken relationship, Ranbir Kapoor reunites with his ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone under Karan Johar's banner for "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (translated in English as "This Youth Is Crazy"), about two polar opposites who fall in love but are forced to decide which comes first: love or career?

Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) is a carefree guy who just loves travelling the world. His best friends Aditi (Kalki Koechlin) and Avi (Aditya Roy Kapoor) decides to join him in a trip to Manali, India. Naina (Deepika Padukone) is medical student (who also happens to be Bunny high school friend) who bumps into them and decide to join in. Along the way, Naina starts to fall for Bunny, only to find out that Bunny is leaving everything for a scholarship in Chicago, United States of America. After 8 years, at the wedding of Aditi and Avi, Bunny and Naina meet again and their feelings return. This time, Bunny is the one pursuing Naina, but now she decides to focus on her career.

Ranbir's performance has charm and should be praised while Deepika is always pleasing to watch. Her character being neither sad nor happy, she just looks radiant throughout the film. Meanwhile, supporting characters Kalki and Aditya are not given much to do. Look out for Bollywood's dancing queen of the nineties - Madhuri Dixit, as she makes an appearance in a song with Ranbir.

The film's album will appeal to youths. With Pritam's music direction and Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics, the film songs are a fine balance between energetic dance numbers and soulful melodies. As for the cinematography, Bollywood fans will again see Rajastan and Kashmir shot beautifully on celluloid, especially for its musical numbers.

Overall, Bollywood fans will be smitten by Ranbir and Deepika's charm and their electrifying chemistry and this makes the film enjoyable to watch. Some may still argue that the film, while it looks good, it lacks a good story. If you are just seeking light-hearted mush, then you are definitely looking in the right place.
