Expectations are bound to run high when two award-winning artists work together and that is what happens to "Naiyaandi", a family entertainer directed by "Vaagai Sooda Vaa" director A. Sarkunam starring Dhanush.

Chinna Vandu (Dhanush) is the youngest of three brothers (the other two played by Sriman and Sathyan) and runs a lamp-making shop. Chinna Vandu falls in love with Vanaroja (Nazriya), who comes to their annual village festival. As she is engaged to someone she doesn't like, they decide to run away and get married. Fearing his parents will disapprove of their marriage, Chinna Vandu brings Vanaroja into his shop as employee, but his unmarried brothers' start falling for her. The rest of the story is how Chinna Vandu handles the situation without revealing Vanaroja's true identity.

Award-winning actor Dhanush seems to have lost his magic touch here. His performance was merely moderate compared to his earlier film performances. The film would have worked even without him. Nazriya, on the other hand, fits the role well with her charming face. The supporting cast such as Suri, Sriman and Sathyan provide some rib-tickling comedy to enlighten us. The music by Ghibran sounds different from the usual Tamil films with new instruments being used as heard in the "Teddy Bear" track. Despite all this, some songs feel forced and fail to match the mood of the scenes.

The director has tried to provide a laid back entertainment with hardly any scope for a story and borrowed the overall story from a 90's hit Malayalam film "Meleparambil Aanveedu". Although the original version was a hit during its time, but this remake falls behind expectations with the predictable storyline that we may have seen many times in the last 10 years. Overall, "Naiyaandi" provides a few joyful moments with weak plot and hard-to-believe situations.
