Watch this if you liked: "Romeo Kota"

The Good, the Bad and Drug Takedown:

Earlier in January, we were served with a movie that focuses on the "buddy cop" concept called "Romeo Kota: Kes Fail Kriptik", which is said to be inspired by Hollywood movies such as "Bad Boys" and "Rush Hour". The movie starring Aaron Aziz and Nabil Ahmad received mixed reviews from audiences, with some saying it was good and some bad, with this reviewer included in the latter mix.

The announcement of an upcoming movie of a similar genre, namely "Polis Evo", did not create much enthusiasm for this reviewer as it just might end up being the same old story like the abovementioned movie. However, the Ghaz Abu Bakar-directed movie manages to amaze this reviewer. The plot may be the same as other "buddy cop" movies but the delivery is impressive. Apart from the strong storyline, the movie is full of action that will no doubt entice audiences.

Shaheizy Sam and Zizan Razak were fitting choices to portray the protagonists Inspector Khai and Inspector Sani since the actors have good chemistry with each other. Both delivered their roles with good impact. What interests this reviewer is the antagonist role played by Ayie Hushairi, which shares some similarities to Yayan Ruhian's Mad Dog character in "Raid: Redemption".

Even though it was previously revealed by the director that there will be less comedic scenes for Zizan Razak, his laid-back portrayal of his Inspector Sani character still manages to tickle this reviewer's funny bone. Sam also impresses in his dedication toward successfully pulling off the tough guy look for his Inspector Khai role.

Overall, this reviewer is content with what "Polis Evo" has to offer and hopes that the movie will become the benchmark for upcoming local action movies.

Look Out For
• Nora Danish speaking in the Terengganu dialect.

Trivia
• It took Shaheizy Sam five months to buff up his body specifically for his role in "Polis Evo".
