The Good, the Bad and the Cannibal:

Director Osman Ali's works often leave a big impact on audiences. Now he has returned to the horror genre with his second horror movie, "Jwanita" (his first was "Puaka Tebing Biru", released eight years ago in 2007).

What's interesting is the director took three years to finish the movie. Add that to the stellar line-up including the likes of Bront Palarae, Maya Karin, Cristina Suzanne, Datin Umie Aida and Marsha Milan, this reviewer was definitely anticipating the movie.

This reviewer is happy to say that Osman Ali has once again hit the nail on the head. The strong storyline and solid performance from the cast make the movie an enjoyable watch.

It can't be denied that lead actress Maya Karin, who plays the titular psychotic woman that dabbles in black magic, gives a big impact onscreen. Bront Palarae and Cristina Suzanne are no less talented as they also fit well with their onscreen characters. Umie Aida, too, deserves a mention as she is able to inject life into her witch doctor character despite her limited screen time. Those who may have had the chance to watch the banned movie "Dukun" would have seen a similarity in the way she carried herself in her different witch doctor characters for both movies.

A word of warning, "Jwanita" is not for the faint-hearted (nor is it for those under 18). One of the horrific scenes served up by the movie is of the main character feasting on human flesh. Maybe haemophobics should also steer clear because the movie features blood, a lot of blood.

All in all, this reviewer is fully satisfied with the movie that manages to concoct a perfect combination of horror, thriller and suspense.
