The Promise

At the dawn of the financial crisis in 1997, many wealthy families were left bankrupt overnight. The envisioned future of two best friends, Boum and Ib, also went down the drain when their families' assets were seized to pay off their debts. Unable to face reality, the two decided to end their lives together at the unfinished tower of a premium luxury condominium that their parents had jointly invested in. However, only Ib went through with the promise. Now, twenty years later, Boum has become a successful real estate entrepreneur. She returns to visit the abandoned tower with her daughter Bell. After the visit, Boum discovers that Bell has started sleepwalking and her action eerily resembles Ib's.

The Good, the Bad and the Broken Promise:

• The movie is a well-written horror movie with an engaging plot, great acting and touching drama, but it is also burden by cliches and ineffective jump scares.

• Despite the few flaws, there's a strong and valuable lesson that can be taken from the movie thanks to the compelling plot and well-crafted script.

• The performances of both lead actresses are also very impressive, from their chemistry to their emotion, action and struggles.

• With a slick and solid direction, the story becomes more and more engrossing with a number of genuine scares and hair-raising moments.
