Fireworks, Should We See It From The Side Or The Bottom?

Norimichi, Yusuke and their friends can't seem to agree on the shape of the fireworks when they explode in the sky. A young teenager, Nazuna, however has more serious things on her mind - her parents are headed for divorce. Unknown to the others, Nazuna's mother plans to take her away after summer ends. While witnessing Norimichi and Yusuke in a 50 meters race in the swimming pool, she secretly decides that the winner will be the one she will be eloping with. Meanwhile, to settle the debate once and for all, the group decides to go to a lighthouse to view the fireworks display.

The Good, the Bad and the Shapes of Fireworks:

• The movie is visually fantastic with stunning backdrops, picturesque scenery, good-looking characters, and surreal animation.

• The visual is almost as good as award-winning anime blockbuster "Your Name", but story-wise, it is lacking in so many ways.

• The story of "Fireworks" is pretty simple, but it doesn't really have anything to do with fireworks, but more on the complicated relationships between the characters.

• That may be the idea of the film, but it is thrown with melodrama, romance, and teenage angst that are not very engaging, and ends up dragging the whole plot instead.

• Even though the animation features famous actors as the voice cast, their delivery is not impactful enough, especially the two main characters.

• The movie however, does provide good music, which is well-synched with the animation and it complements each of the movie's scene and atmosphere.
