The Good, the Bad and the Simpler Times:

• Based on a best-selling novel of the same name, the movie is an emotional drama, with stellar performance, heart-warming message, and a magical twist.

• The movie brings back a lot of nostalgia, and a sense of familiarity that evoke the fond memories of simpler times.

• Those who grew up in the 80s and 90s would definitely be able to relate to the story, as it is a time when technology doesn't consume us and life is simpler and more peaceful.

• The movie is like the Japanese version of a Nicholas Sparks only without the romance element, but it does highlight human relationship and the importance of kindness.

• The story however, goes back and forth from past to present a lot, and it struggles to give sufficient screen time to all of its characters and their individual narrative.

Trivia:

• The novel has had sales of more than 1.6 million copies in China.
