The Good, the Bad and the Indigo League:

• The movie was made to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary by retelling Ash's initial journey to become a Pokemon Master with a new, original interpretation.

• The movie aims to bring back the nostalgia of older Pokemon fans while also re-introduce the beginning of the story to newer fans.

• The story however doesn't really appeal to the older fans as it is not exactly faithful to its original source, especially because the characters Misty and Brock were replaced by two different characters.

• But the company has already stated that the movie is set in an alternate universe, and it acts as a loose retelling of the original Indigo League saga of the show, focusing more on Ash and Pikachu's relationship.

• Nevertheless, compared to the other Pokemon movies, this one is definitely far more compelling in terms of character's growth, battles, and the charming and fun world of Pokemon.

• Visually, the animation is gorgeous and is quite similar to the art style from the original season, and the battling scenes are quite detailed.

• The movie is not perfect, but it is a great tribute to the franchise.

Trivia:

• Ash's hat in the movie appears to be a mix of his Kanto/Johto hat and Alola hat.
