Watch this if you liked: “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” & “Jaane Tu, Yaa Jaane Naa”.
Why "I Hate Luv Storys" is spelt that way? Apparently, producer Karan Johar has this belief about lucky charm names. Just like his previous movie titles beginning with the letter "K" namely "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham", and "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" accompanied with close super star friends making cameos, resulting in a good run at the box office. Sadly, none of them appeared this time around. Director Punit Malhotra makes his directional debut, but it looks as though Karan Johar was behind the camera.
The story has Jay (Imran Khan), a successful film assistant director who does love stories but refuses to believe in them, while Simran (Sonam Kapoor) on the other hand wakes up in a romantic world and truly believes in it. They cross path and become close friends. Soon, their friendship turns into love but due to some misunderstandings and jealousy, Simran decides to marry someone else. Jay finally realises his mistake and tries his best to get her out of marriage plans.
The pairing of between Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor looks very hot on screen. Sonam Kapoor has improved in her acting and returns with a curvaceous body and a wonderful look - definitely an eye candy throughout the film. The well planned cinematography and the packaging also help make certain scenes look very attractive.
However, the film sadly has a repetitive and predictable storyline which can bore audiences after a while. It is too predictable that at one point, people would have guessed what's coming next. Moreover, the characters are confusing as they lack depth in what they believe in. The comedy sequences does not have the tongue-in-cheek humour and at times comes off as a collage of various popular scenes taken straight from previous Karan Johar or even Yash Raj films.
For its soundtrack, the music is soothing and somehow enjoyable by music directors Vishal-Shekhar. The songs to look out for are "Jab Mila Tu" sang by Vishal and "Bin Tere Bin Tere" sang by Shafqat Amanat Ali and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Young couples and teenagers will most definitely like this as it's a vibrant love story but generally don't expect any new offerings. Perhaps, with a little twist in the climax, which prompts a possible sequel, would have made the film more interesting.Cinema Online, 05 July 2010 |
