4 Oct – Less than a year after Golden Screen Cinemas launched their second cineplex on Penang island in Queensbay Mall, GSC opens another eight screens across the Penang bridge in Seberang Jaya.
"We are moving the experience up another level with most of our new locations, offering additional amenities and facilities," explains Irving Chee, General Manager of GSC when showing Cinema Online the lift and washroom facilities for the disabled and two spacious function areas next to the halls for private events. By the looks of it, like the mall itself, GSC is also aiming to serve an audience with slightly higher expectations of comfort in the northern region currently not offered by neighbouring malls and cinemas.
With a strong line-up of movies opening through the four festive reasons over the next four months, GSC seems confident to capture at least an average 30% occupancy rate with stronger crowds on weekends.

The addition of GSC Sunway Carnival expands the number of screens and choices available to cinema-goers on the mainland side of the Penang bridge, previously only served by Mega Prai, Lotus Star Screen Cathay Butterworth, both only five to 10 minutes drive away, and GSC Summit Bukit Mertajam about 20 minutes away.
"2007 is am exciting year for GSC, with aggressive expansion plans for four new cinemas," said Ms. Koh Mei Lee, CEO of GSC when mentioning the two locations opened so far in the north, as well as two new up-market flagships in Kuala Lumpur by year end. Cinema Online is already looking at a possibility of both the grand GSC Pavilion KL and exclusive GSC Signature in Mid Valley Gardens opening simultaneously as early as this November, in what could be the biggest industry shaker since GSC surprised all with an 18-screen multiplex seven years ago.
