5 Mar – Many fans were excited to watch Walt Disney's "Oz The Great And Powerful" a week early before its release, with some claiming that it lived up to expectations and more. Thashyni, 24, who is a big fan of James Franco, said that "James Franco was brilliantly cast as Oscar "Oz" Diggs. This film is a must watch if you've always wondered what was over that rainbow." The gala premiere also saw a Q&A session being carried out where fans who managed to correctly answer the questions walked away with exclusive "Oz" merchandise such as T-shirts, iPhone covers and duffel bags.
There were also people dressed up as "Oz" characters and a magician who wandered around performing tricks for the children present. Directed by Sam Raimi, the fantasy adventure film is inspired by L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz", and is the prequel to the 1939 film "The Wizard Of Oz". Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, where he is reputed to be the prophesized Wizard and saviour of the land. At first he thinks he has hit the jackpot, but that all changes when he realises that the danger is real. Reluctantly drawn into the battle between the three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams), the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. "Oz The Great And Powerful" opens in cinemas in Malaysia on 7 March 2013!
