26 Jul – David Leitch's latest film "Atomic Blonde" is set to open in cinemas nationwide tomorrow, 27 July, but winners of Cinema Online's contest managed to catch the movie yesterday during its Malaysian premiere! Starring Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron, the action spy thriller has been compared to many other spy-themed films like "James Bond", "Bourne Identity", "Salt", and especially "John Wick", considering that the latter was also directed by Leitch.
There were three types of winners that came to the screening at TGV Cinemas One Utama – fans of Theron, fans of spy films, and both.
"I've loved Charlize Theron since "The Italian Job", she's such a great actress, and Chris Hemsworth even suggested her to be the next James Bond!," said Shamimi Binti Azahan, who is a huge fan of the South African/American actress.
"I'm very keen to see what Charlize Theron and James McAvoy are going to deliver in this movie. She always plays badass villain roles like in "Snow White and the Huntsman" and the recent "Fast and Furious", so I'm excited to see what she's bringing this time," said Nur Atina Abdullah.
Though many were there for the award-winning actress, some movie enthusiasts were there to appreciate the plot and genre. "I'm not much of a Theron fan, but I love watching action movies, so I'm watching it for the genre", said Fatin Syahira binti Mohd Jamil, who was attracted to the movie because of its plot and not cast.
Set in the late 80s during the Cold War, the movie follows MI6 spy Lorraine Broughton who is dispatched to Berlin to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has killed an undercover agent for reasons unknown. She is ordered to cooperate with Berlin station chief David Percival to recover a missing list of double agents.
