In some Asian cultural belief, taking photographs with three people is considered as bad luck; the person in the middle might die earlier. For the Japanese, a 'shinrei shashin' phenomenon might occur, in which they believe a fourth 'person' will appear in the photo. Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese are superstitious when it comes to number four due to number's pronunciation is very close to the word "Death" in their respective languages. The upcoming American science fiction film "I Am Number Four" seems to believe otherwise. Number Four is specially chosen from all other numbers to become the titular character of the movie, which is based on a novel of the same title by Pittacus Lore. The story is about the last remaining nine infant aliens who were sent down to Earth for refuge and have to save themselves from the enemy that destroyed their home planet, Lorien.
This time around, we will be featuring the three (not four unfortunately) rising Hollywood stars for your reading pleasure. The lead character, Number Four is saddled by Alex Pettyfer, a stunning English actor from 2006's British spy flick "Stormbreaker", supported by two young female actresses, Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray of FOX's "Glee" series) and Australian model actress Teresa Palmer ("The Sorcerer's Apprentice"). Pettyfer began his career as child fashion model at seven, for the leading youth brand GAP. In August 2009, the UK magazine Glamour ranked him at number 21 on their list of the sexiest man on the planet, determined by a poll of 2000 British women.
Besides his acting and modelling career, Pettyfer was also previously known as actress Emma Roberts' ex-boyfriend. The hunky actor reportedly met the niece of Julia Roberts' on the sets of 2008's "Wild Child" and started dating from there. He even had a tattoo of her initials carved on his right wrist but the relationship did not last very long. Despite all that, he is apparently dating his "I Am Number Four" co-star, Dianna Agron. They were both set up by director D.J Caruso prior to filming and just like they say, sparks fly!
Apart from the sci-fi flick, Pettyfer will also star in the upcoming film "Beastly", alongside fashionista Mary-Kate Olsen, "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens and Neil Patrick Harris. The film is a modern adaptation of the classic fairytale "Beauty and The Beast". Pettyfer apparently had gone through a very challenging six hours-worth of transformation into a hideous creature for the movie.
Born in Savannah, Georgia and raised in San Francisco, Dianna Agron is best known for her role as the Cheerios' head cheerleader Quinn Fabray in FOX's musical series, "GLEE". Through her emotional scenes and smooth dance moves in the series, she received a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance. The 24 year-old was chosen by People to be part of their Most Beautiful 2010, much thanks to her classic beauty look. She is a vegetarian and supporter of People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She had also graced the cover of high-fashion magazine Elle Canada's 2011 February issue and also on the GQ magazine's November 2010 issue alongside her GLEE castmates Lea Michele and Cory Monteith.
The cover apparently caused quite a stir in the States due to the provocative poses as well as attires won by the two females for the shoot.
She is currently dating her "I Am Number Four" co-star, Alex Pettyfer and he had been seen visiting her on the sets of GLEE, now in its second season.
She had also make a minor appearance in Christina Aguilera's musical debut film, "Burlesque" as actor Cam Gigandet's girlfriend. Besides that, Agron will star alongside Anna Paquin ("True Blood"), Katie Holmes and Josh Duhamel in romance drama, "The Romantics" as well as a girl named Alice in upcoming thriller, "The Hunters" set for release later this year.
She is a face that any fans of actor Daniel Radcliffe will not forget for she played the actor's love interest in 2006's coming-of-age movie, "December Boys". Teresa Palmer is an Australian actress whose movie debut was in "2:37", an Australian drama film about problem teenagers. Her first Hollywood debut however was in Japanese horror remake "The Grudge 2". She also starred in Adam Sandler's family comedy "Bedtime Stories" (2008), where she met Russell Brand (is now her ex-boyfriend and Katy Perry's husband). She also appeared in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" alongside Nicolas Cage, playing love interest to actor Jay Baruchel. Besides that, Palmer is a film producer and screenwriter herself. She formed her own film production company Avakea Production with Australian actresses Tahyna Tozzi and Nathalie Kelley. According to The Cairns Post, Palmer is currently directing and producing a documentary film about a Kenyan-based charity, the Happy African Foundation.
In "I Am Number Four", Pettyfer will play the role of Humber Four, also named as John Smith who moves to Paradise, Ohio, disguised as an American high school student. He befriends Sarah Hart played by Agron, a photographer. After being on the run his whole life, Number Four falls in love and now has something to stand up and fight for. While Palmer will be Number Six, the one who refuses to wait for her turn to be killed and instead decides to fight back for her existence.
"I Am Number Four" will be showing at the cinemas in Malaysia and Singapore on 24 February 2011.
