Crossovers we'd love to see. |
Thanks to the successful formula of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, movie crossovers have been a growing trend these days. This year alone, we had "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" and next year, there's the highly-anticipated "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice".
But in actuality, movie crossovers are nothing new. For instance, one of the earliest movie crossovers is "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" back in 1943, and some of the more contemporary movie crossovers include "Van Helsing", "Freddy vs. Jason" and "Alien vs. Predator".
Since we're on the topic, here's our wish list of movie crossovers we would like to see happen sometime in the near future.
1. "James Bond" and "Mission: Impossible"
|
For those who have seen "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation", the movie was famously known for Rebecca Ferguson's scene-stealing performance as a shadowy MI6 agent named Ilsa Faust. As you could see, MI6 is U.K's Secret Intelligence Service made famous by the "James Bond" movies. So, wouldn't it be great to see Ferguson reprising her role from "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation" to team up with the 007 himself? Of course, no "Mission: Impossible" movie would be complete without the major presence of Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt. The combination of Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson and Daniel Craig (even though he's only contracted for one more James Bond movie after "Spectre", but who knows, stranger things have always happened in Hollywood anyway) definitely sounds like a dream team.
2. "Lethal Weapon" and "21 Jump Street"
|
During the '80s and the '90s, one of the most sought-after genres in Hollywood was the buddy-cop movie. Among them was of course, the "Lethal Weapon" series starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Although the buddy-cop genre of today is a standard cliché, there was one movie that really stood out; the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill-starring "21 Jump Street" as well as its sequel, "22 Jump Street". Now imagine having the two movie franchises mashed together. It will be like the old versus new generation buddy-cop era for today's generation.
3. "Ghostbusters" and Popular Movie Monsters
|
In addition to Paul Feig's female version of the "Ghostbusters" reboot next year, there would be a new all-male counterpart in the works by the Russo brothers ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Avengers: Infinity War Part I & II") and also a new animated movie spearheaded by Sony Pictures Animation. So, since "Ghostbusters" has suddenly become all the rage these days, why not slot in a movie crossover where both female and male teams of "Ghostbusters" battle against some of the recognisable horror icons of the cinematic universe? After all, wouldn't it be cool to see movie monsters like Freddy Krueger ("A Nightmare On Elm Street"), Jason Voorhees ("Friday The 13th"), Pinhead ("Hellraiser"), Michael Myers ("Halloween") and Stripe ("Gremlins") playing the all-star villains in a "Ghostbusters" mashup?
4. "Indiana Jones" and "Tomb Raider"
|
If there was ever a talk about two different sexes in the fictional adventurer roles, it had to be on Indiana Jones and Lara Croft. While the world was waiting to see the long-gestating "Indiana Jones 5" happened with Chris Pratt rumoured for the title role, there would be also a new "Tomb Raider" reboot in the works as well. While we're at it, why not consider mashing up Indiana Jones and Lara Croft together in an epic action-adventure movie? On the side, we think Pratt is a really good fit to play the new Indiana Jones.
5. "The Avengers" and "X-Men"
|
No list of movie crossovers would be complete without a mention of a superhero franchise, and here's what we want to see the most; "The Avengers" and "X-Men" mashup! Actually, such a mashup had already taken place via the Marvel Comics back in 2012. But it would be even awesome if they were materialised in an epic cinematic form. In fact, back in March 2015 from Yahoo! Movies U.K., Hugh Jackman himself had once cited such a mashup could be a possibility. Now, if Disney and Fox could reach a certain agreement to fulfil this destined-to-be-spectacular "The Avengers" and "X-Men" mashup just like how Disney managed to strike a deal with Sony for "Spider-Man", it would be a dream come true for every comic-book fan.
