The journey for "The Hunger Games" series has finally come to an end, with "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" currently playing in cinemas nationwide. While Gary Ross was the one who brought the first "Hunger Games" to life, many die-hard fans and viewers would have agreed that Francis Lawrence took a step further by making the series even better in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Although his subsequent return in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" was met with mixed reviews, it's hard to deny the overall cinematic impact that he managed to bring to the series. Now, to honour this highly-successful series, let's take a look back at the five best moments from the previous three "Hunger Games" movies:
You have to admit it took a lot of courage to stand up for your loved ones, especially when it involves a life-or-death situation. In the first "The Hunger Games" (2012), Katniss made a huge sacrifice by screaming "I volunteer! I volunteer! I volunteer as Tribute!" to take over her little sister Prim's (Willow Shields) place to become a competitor instead. It was also a powerful scene that showcased the emotional intensity of Jennifer Lawrence's impeccable performance as Katniss Everdeen.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" (2013) was best remembered for Jena Malone's scene-stealing performance as Johanna Mason. She certainly knew how to make an entrance here. The scene began with Johanna appearing in the elevator alongside Katniss, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Haymitch (Woody Harrelson). She started complaining about her stylist and making sassy remarks, before casually stripping off her District 7 tree costume stark naked. To top it off, Jennifer Lawrence's disgusted expression was priceless.
The scene where Peeta and Katniss each gave a speech that honoured both Thresh (Dayo Okeniyi) and Rue (Amandla Stenberg) in front of the citizens of District 11 in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", was one of the most heartfelt moments in the series.
Katniss certainly meant business when she delivered her fiery speech in front of the camera after witnessing the air-raid destruction of District 8 in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1" (2014). It's impossible not to get goosebumps where she spoke her words angrily, "I have a message for President Snow. You can torture us, and bomb us, or burn our districts to the ground. But do you see that? Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us!"
In "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1", there was a simple yet heartfelt moment where Katniss sang "The Hanging Tree". Not only it was a beautiful folk song, but it also proved that Jennifer Lawrence owned quite an impressive voice. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2" is currently playing in cinemas nationwide.
