Here's a little family drama, though the premise might be a little bleak. "Blackbird", a remake of Danish film "Silent Heart", stars Susan Sarandon as Lily, a woman who learns she has ALS and wants to spend a final weekend together with her family before ending her life. She and her husband Paul (Sam Neill) gather their friends and loved ones for the loving weekend, but unresolved issues soon surface between Lily and her daughters, Jennifer (Kate Winslet) and Anna (Mia Wasikowska).
Riz Ahmed ("Rogue One", "Venom") stars in "Sound of Metal" as Ruben Stone, a heavy-metal drummer who is part of the duo Blackgammon, along with his singer girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke). When he begins losing his hearing, his life is thrown into freefall as he struggles to accept his situation. Prior to streaming on Amazon Prime, the movie made its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.
If you find yourself rewatching "Die Hard" every time Christmas rolls around, here's another movie to add to your December list then. "Christmas Crossfire" is a German comedy starring Kostja Ullmann as Samuel, a man who, after foiling an attempted murder, flees the crew of would-be killers along with their intended target, while a woman (Alli Neumann) he's just met tries to find him.

Watch his final onscreen performance in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom", a posthumous release that saw the actor playing Levee, an ambitious trumpeter who wants to start his own band. Viola Davis leads the cast as the titular 'Mother of the Blues' in this George C. Wolfe-directed and Denzel Washington-helmed drama film.
The tale of Peter Pan is one that has been retold and reimagined in many forms over the years. "Wendy" is one that revolves around the titular girl, who lives in the rural South with her brothers, twins James and Douglas. One night, they follow Peter Pan to a mysterious island, where aging and time have come unglued. There Wendy must fight not only to save her family and freedom, but also the joyous spirit of youth from the deadly peril of growing up.
