What movies should you watch at the Japanese Film Festival?

The arrival of the Japanese Film Festival each year is always met with welcoming anticipation. The 14th edition of the festival this year brings in a total of 14 Japanese titles for the big screen and they encompass a variety of genres to pick from! Whether you want to catch Takumi Saitoh's directorial feature "Blank 13" or see him star in "The Projects", you can also catch some decent comedies in the form of "Samurai Hustle Returns" and "ReLIFE". "Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections"

What is it about:
This anthology drama encompasses three stories derived from different Asian regions - Cambodia, Penang, Philippines and Japan - that are told through the eyes of filmmakers Brillante Ma Mendoza, Isao Yukisada and Sotho Kulikar.

This is the Japan Foundation's first effort in uniting the best of Asian talents in one film in a truly unique omnibus feature.

What is it about:
An estranged father is suffering from cancer and is given only three months to live. His wife and one of his son feels only hatred for him, thanks to his previous gambling habit, however his other son Koji is sympathetic and tries to make sense of it all.
Why you should watch it:
Actor turned filmmaker Takumi Saitoh makes his feature film directorial debut through this emotional film that eventually won his the Asian New Talent Award at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival.
