Epy says he is not ready for the director's chair.

After being entrusted by MIG's big boss David Teo to produce a script for the film "Lu, Gua Bro", Epy Kodiang, who first shone in "Raja Lawak", has once again been entrusted with the task of penning a script for the latest film by Mangkin Prestij "Kawan Aku Mati Dalam Rumah Sewa".

Recently, we had the chance to interview Epy during the premiere of "Kawan Aku Mati Dalam Rumah Sewa" at Cathay Cineplex, eCurve and had him share with us about his latest film.

Assalamualaikum and how are you Epy?
Waalaikumussalam, I'm good.

You star in "Kawan Aku Mati Dalam Rumah Sewa" and you are also the screenwriter for the film. How did you get the idea to come up with this story?
The idea to make this film came from David Teo who wanted me to produce a script about a rented house but that which does not involve a lot of locations in order to minimise the production cost. So I thought about it and decided to slip in a horror-comedy plot that tells the story of the troubles that occur in the house as well as the behaviours of the renters themselves.

Before you wrote the script, did you make a research or reference of other films? And how long did it take for you to finish the script?
To produce the script for the film, I took inspiration from other horror-comedy films such as the "Scary Movie" franchise and a few horror-comedy films from Thailand as my reference. The film will make the audience think in certain situations "What am I going to do if I were in this moment?" I took only two months to finish the script.

You've done acting and scriptwriting, so when will you be directing your own film?
[Laughs] I haven't thought about directing films as I'm still new in the filmmaking line. There is still a lot that I have to learn about filmmaking before I'm ready to direct a film. Directing is not an easy task as the producer, that's a big responsibility with millions of ringgits worth of investment.

You are always seen starring in films but never in dramas. Are you not interested to act in dramas anymore?
I actually am awaiting offers to act in dramas but have yet to receive any offer, so for now I will just accept whatever offers that I do receive.

What the updates on your latest projects?
I will be appearing in three new films which are ""Gudang Kubur", "Kasutku Kusut" dan "Kaki Kitai", with the last one also being my third film as a scriptwriter.
