Bella talks about her chemistry with Syamsul Yusof

Bella Dally at the gala premiere of "Desolasi".

Fantasy thriller "Desolasi" is Malaysian actress Bella Dally or real name, Nabilah Ali Dally's third film following her roles in "Seru" and "Gila-Gila Remaja 2".

The 26-year-old Sabahan actress is more well-versed in television series, having acted since she was at the tender age of 18.

In her latest work, "Desolasi", directed by Syafiq Yusof and starring Syamsul Yusof, Bella plays the film's heroine who is "someone very faithful to God and is also the plot twist of the film", as described by the actress herself.

During the gala premiere of "Desolasi", some of the talents at the event included Datuk Yusof Haslam; father of Syamsul and Syafiq Yusof; Mawi who sings the original soundtrack of the movie, and Puteri Sarah, Syamsul Yusof's wife.

"Desolasi" follows Aiman who one day wakes up in a world without humans. There, he meets a mysterious woman and learns the truth about the alternate world.

Cinema Online: Bella, you are well-known for acting in TV series, why did you decide to act in this film?

Bella Dally: Because it's a film by Skop Production. Secondly, it's because the film is directed by Syafiq Yusof and I know that he is good in what he does, and thirdly, it's because of Syamsul Yusof. He's a great actor and I hoped that I got to learn something from him.

What are the challenges that you faced while shooting this film?

One is the environment; sometimes the weather makes it hard for us to film especially when it rains. Secondly is the use of CGI in this film. As this film uses a lot of CGI effects, I have to rely a lot on my imagination but Alhamdulillah, with the guidance from Syafiq, I managed to pull off all the scenes.

Bella Dally just recently got married to actor Nazim Othman.

What have you learned from this film?

I've learned a lot, especially for my acting and also Islamic teachings as this film indirectly talks about Islam.

What was the chemistry between you and Syamsul like?

At first, it was a bit hard for me to approach him, but what people have been telling me is that "he's always like that" with his female co-stars, so I respect him for that. But despite being like that, when we were shooting the chemistry between us was great.

What do mean by "he is always like that"?

It means that he doesn't talk much with his female co-stars.

So, how many days did it take for you to reach a level of compatibility with Syamsul?

We were okay after three days. Only at the beginning he seemed a bit unfriendly. Even he admitted that he is always like that so he told me not to get offended, and a lot of the other actresses are already used to him being that way.

What are your hopes for this film?

Of course I hope that everyone would come to appreciate and enjoy this film. InsyaAllah, after this, I may do more films and not just TV series.

What is the difference between shooting a series and film?

For me, shooting a drama series is a lot of work because I have a lot of scenes to shoot, and I don't have a lot of time to study my script. But for a film, I'm only shooting a few scenes in a day, so I usually have more time to do my homework. And what I like about film is that you can see that everyone is taking their job seriously, and I really like that.

What is your next project?

There're a few offers here and there, but nothing is officially confirmed yet. So for now, I am focusing on promoting this movie, and also my fashion project with Ariani.

"Desolasi" hits Malaysia and Singapore this 8 December 2016.
