24 Mar – Popular animated feature "Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula" was one of the highlights at the Malaysian Pavilion booth featured on day one of the Hong Kong Film and TV Market (Filmart) in Hong Kong yesterday. Production house Les Copaque head honcho Burhanuddin Radzi told Cinema Online: "I just got news from back home that the box office takings for 'Geng' now stands at RM 6.28 million. This is really an outstanding achievement for the Malaysian film industry and we are obviously making headway into other markets to prove that this success can go international. A Turkish-dubbed version is on the verge of completion." He added: "Did you know that 'Geng' has an amazing following in Indonesia?" The wildly successful "Geng" is currently enjoying an extended run at the Malaysian box office due to popular demand, a development which was unexpected by most industry observers in the country.
"Geng" and other upcoming Malaysian projects are being showcased and discussed at the Hong Kong Film and TV Market (Filmart) being held now from March 22-26 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong. It is the 13th edition of a popular trading platform for film distributors and producers. "Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula" is playing in cinemas now.
