11 Jun – Much to audiences' surprise, the winner of the 'Ultimate Movie Stub Challenge,' Lau Sai Yew collected an astounding 1501 movie stubs, including premiere tickets since 2001. The 32-year-old said: "This amount wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the help of my nine other friends who trusted me with their ticket stubs. But to be fair, I contributed the most with over 500 tickets. I tell you, if premiere tickets weren't allowed, I don't think I'd stand a chance of winning!"

The challenge was in conjunction with Movie Carnival 2009, where participants would only need to bring their collection of movie ticket stubs and submit it before 7 June at Movie Carnival's info booth. The prize presentation was held on 7 June at Blue Atrium, Sunway Pyramid where after the contest, ticket stubs were returned upon request.

Mr. Lau with his friend's movie ticket collection

Lau won himself a Samsung LCD TV and a whole cinema hall for the screening of "Ice Age 3" on 4 July 2009 at Cathay Cineleisure Damansara. "I will definitely bring all of my friends who have helped me and many others. As for the Samsung LCD TV - that one goes to my living room!" said the happy winner. Following in second place is Fong Mei Yun with 652 movie stubs and in third, Foo Ming Yi with 634.

Showing off two booklet collections of neatly organised premiere tickets, he confessed, "Honestly, these premiere ticket collections here belong to my friend. We both enjoy going to movie premieres because it gives us a very different experience and feel as compared to watching it when the movie is released nationwide." When Cinema Online asked if he could remember his first movie ticket collected, he thought hard and replied, "Legally Blonde"!
