28 June – In conjunction with Penang's Georgetown 2nd anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there will be a month-long inaugural Georgetown Festival beginning 1 July 2010. The festival will feature over 80 programs to promote arts and heritage in Penang, including theatre, music, dance, film, art, opera, food, fashion, photography, as well as inspirational talks. A total of four films will be shown during the festival including Singapore's quirky murder thriller "The Blue Mansion" and Malaysia's period drama "The Red Kebaya". Incidentally, these movies were shot in Penang, especially the famous Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, also known as the 'Blue Mansion'. All films will be shown at Wawasan Open University on 30-31 July 2010, with ticket price ranging from RM15 to RM50.
"The Blue Mansion" tells about a wealthy tycoon who dies suddenly under unknown circumstances. Returning as a ghost, he tries to uncover the mystery to his death, alongside two detectives who try to solve the case. On the other hand, "The Red Kebaya" surrounds the story of a photographer who travels to photograph old houses in Malaysia. In an old house in Penang, he is transported back in time, eventually discovering the reason that led to him being an orphan. As a treat to moviegoers, Glen Goei, actor/director of "The Blue Mansion" and Ramli Hassan, producer/actor of "The Red Kebaya" will also make an appearance during the Georgetown Festival to share their views on filming in Penang as well as their thoughts on the movie.
