Singaporean/Malaysian films at JIFF 2010

26 Nov – Several Singaporean and Malaysian films will be featured at the Jakarta International Film Festival 2010 from 25 November to 4 December at Blitzmegaplex (BLZ) Pacific Place, Indonesia.

Among the works on display from Singapore are Glen Goei's quirky murder thriller "The Blue Mansion", Wee Li Lin's rom-com "Forever" and Vietnam/Singapore indie co-production "Miss Saigon", while Malaysian films co-producing with Japan includes Woo Ming Jin's drama "The Tiger Factory" and Edmund Yeo's short drama "Inhalation".

Yet to play in Singapore, "Forever" makes its world premiere at the festival and is tentatively slated to show on local screens in March 2011. The film marks as Wee Li Lin's second feature film, whose debut "Gone Shopping" competed for the New Talents award at the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival (2008).

Released in 2009, "The Blue Mansion" is a dark comedy that tells of a wealthy Asian tycoon who dies suddenly under mysterious circumstances and returns as a ghost to try to uncover the secret of his death. Starring Deborah Png, Patrick Teoh and Louisa Chong.

Earlier this year, Woo Ming Jin's "The Tiger Factory" was announced the official selection of The Directors' Fortnight at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

A proud honour for the young filmmaker and his team, "The Tiger Factory" is a tale of 19-year-old Ping whose aunt hides a dirty secret that involves a 'baby factory' scheme - pairing young women with migrant workers and then selling the babies for money.

Woo Ming Jin's work as a filmmaker and photographer has garnered him a reputation as one of South East Asia's most promising talent.

In relation to that, Edmund Yeo's short drama "Inhalation" is a short spin-off of "The Tiger Factory", and features the same characters from the latter film. Ping's friend Mei, who gets deported from Japan, spends a night quarrelling with her boyfriend who comes to pick her up at the harbour.
