20 Feb – KRU Studios recently held a special premiere screening of their latest produced film, a musical-fantasy entitled "Magika", directed for the first-time by Edry Adbul Halim (better known as Edry KRU). Edry's directional debut didn't disappoint when members of the media gave praise, noting that it was better than the previous movies produced by them. Moreover, "Magika" is said to have the potential to break box office records when it screens in cinemas later this year. According to Edry, he got the idea to form "Magika" during the production of "Duyung" (2008), where he decided to surround the concept on Malay myths and legends. "I chose the concept because I wanted the younger generation to familiarise themselves with the Malay myths and legends so that it will not be forgotten. Currently, young audiences are being fed with fairy tales such as Snow White, Cinderella and more," said Edry. Taking up a month of filming and bearing a cost of RM2 million to make, Edry divulges that there was only one scene censored due to a dialogue involving the Sultan of Brunei. Regardless of that, it did not disrupt the flow of the story. Edry successfully casts over 20 popular Malaysian artists such as Diana Danielle, Mawi, M.Nasir, Ziana Zain, Ning Baizura, Dato' Jalaluddin Hassan, Maya Karin, Azni Hj. Nawawi, Sharifah Amani, Sharifah Aleya, Nabil Raja Lawak 2, Adibah Noor and Vanidah Imran to star in this movie and showcases 14 original songs written by Edry himself.
